Now that we all have smartphones in our pockets and smartwatches on our wrists, we’re looking to make our home life easier too.
But despite much discussion in the press, there still seems to be some common misconceptions regarding home automation. Here we’re going to address these misconceptions and set them right!
#1 – It’s too expensive
Home automation is still in its infancy and historically, ‘young’ technology has been quite costly. And this was true of home automation at one stage (we all remember hearing about Bill Gates’ home, right?). And it still is true, but only partly.
Yes, you can purchase very expensive state of the art technology, but as more and more home automation tech is hitting the market, prices are dropping. Put a little time and effort into your search and you’ll be surprised at how cost effectively you can create a futuristic home.
#2 – A home automation system is too complicated to use
Just like the cost was once expensive, a smart home was once complicated to use. The array of buttons and controls would confuse even the most tech savvy of us. But now home automation technology has started creep into the mainstream market, its designers are making it more and more user friendly.
Now you can expect systems that are simple and completely headache free to use. There’s no more ringing technical support every time you want to turn your heating up, or becoming so frustrated that you just start to mash all the buttons. It’s simple!
#3 – Installation is too much work
When people think of making their home ‘smarter’ they think the installation will involve bashing down walls, ripping out wiring and lengthy installations. But it couldn’t be further from the truth.
Most technology today is designed to work wirelessly, and that’s the same for a home automation system. So the technology you’ve purchased can be retrofitted into your home.
#4 – It’s unnecessary
Some people think that home automation is merely a fad, a toy that isn’t really useful or necessary. And in some ways they’re right. Clapping your hands to turn on your lights isn’t really a must, is it? But there are practical reasons to automate your home.
It’s an excellent way to become more energy efficient. Your heating will learn the best times to turn on and off. Your lights will automatically turn off when you leave the room. This will save you money and have a less harmful impact on the environment.
So don’t count home automation out as an awkward, expensive fad just yet. It could just end up changing our lives!
